The Hawaiian Island of Oahu has a very good bus system - so very good in fact that "the bus" can get you to nearly any location on our island! Because the bus system is SO very good, many people ask if it’s really necessary to to have a rental car on Oahu. In my opinion, the answer to that question is always... yes, undeniably yes, and absolutely yes!

If you want to experience the real beauty of Oahu you'll want to drive directly to your destination rather than waiting for a bus to weave you there. Sure, you can get there on bus eventually, but you can be almost anywhere very quickly with a rental car.  So whether it's the glorious Lani Kai Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches in all of Hawaii, or the white sand of Waimanalu on the east side of Honolulu, take a car and get there quickly!

Just remember that you must be at least 21 years old to rent a car in Hawaii.
