3 Travel Tips for Christmas Vacation in Hawaii

Planning for Your Christmas Vacation in Hawaii

1. Plan on Paying Higher Rates for Hotels and Vacation Rentals

Vacation rentals are in short supply and high demand during the Hawaii Christmas Season.  Rental property owners know the supply and demand fluctuations well, and consequently they charge much higher rates for the holidays. As a vacation rental property owner myself, it's surprising to me that so many people ask for special rates during the holiday season.  Rule #1: In order to get best rates, make Christmas reservations in the summer, and remember that most vacation rentals require a 5-night minimum stay.

2. Reserve Your Rental Car as Early as Possible

Another supply and demand issue - many tourists don't take into consideration that the Hawaii Islands have a limited resource of available rental cars. When car rentals on any given island become 'maxed' out,  the rental companies may have no availabilty or they may ask for astronomical daily rates. Rule #2: The earlier you make your car reservation, the better your chances for an available car and a fair rate.

3. Plan Your Christmas Dinner in Hawaii

Spending Christmas in Hawaii is very special and your Christmas Dinner should be no exception. It goes without saying that all of the fancy Hawaii Beach Resorts put on their own Christmas dinners, accompanied by the best in Hawaiian entertainment including hula dancers and Hawaiian music. If your budget allows for this extravagance, by all means indulge! This Christmas turkey doesn't come cheap however, and you might be better served to consider an alternative.

For example, you might try taking advantage of the great Christmas Dinner offerings by Hawaiian local markets: turkey dinner for 6 - 8 people, with gravy, cranberry sauce, stuffing, and all the trimmings may be picked up at most markets or even delivered to your Hotel or Hawaiian Vacation Rental. Then, you can sit outside on your lanai and enjoy Christmas dinner with your family in  the warm Hawaiian air, accompaned by some gentle Hawaiian music. This is Christmas in Hawaii!
