Hawaii Pepal Leaves Can Save Your Life!

Bo Tree HawaiiA blogger friend just published an interesting article proclaiming that pepal leaves can save your life! How, you ask? Visit his "I Travel to Work, Do You?" blog to find out - or go directly to his article, "Amazing Tip to Recharge Your Battery with Leaves."

I will tell you that pepal leaves are prominent throughout the state. There is a Bo Tree growing on the grounds of Hilo's Waiakea Intermediate School that's about 25 years old. Although planted as a single trunk small tree, I'm told that it quickly developed multiple trunks as new trunks emerged from the root base. Here are some fun facts.

Ficus religiosa, Moraceae, Bo tree, Buddha tree. Large tree with leaves having long drawn-out tips, native to India. Buddha was supposed to have received enlightenment under one which is now dead. However, a cutting of this dating from 288 B.C. still exists in Sri Lanka. Location: Near mauka-Diamond Head corner of Hawaii Hall.

Aloha ~

    Aloha -

My name is Jon Cook - I'm writing to you regarding the Hawaii Jaycees effort to save the Aloha Festivals Parade. As you may know, the Aloha Festivals Parade must raise $50,000 or there will be No Parade this year.

The Hawaii Jaycees are now working with/for the Festivals to raise the money so the Parade will run once again this year. The parade is often the highlight of our visitors' stay, so this should be of interest to your readers.

Would it be possible to mention our efforts on your blog? We have a limited time to raise the money. Donors can give online at:

    SaveTheParade.org

People can give as little as $1 or as much as they feasibly can.

We'll also be doing fishnet donations at various Honolulu intersections next weekend (June 28/29). You can confirm this with the Aloha Festivals if needed. Any questions, please let me know -

    mahalo,
    Jon Cook
