Punahou High School Marching Band to Represent Hawaii in Barack Obama Inauguration Parade

Performing the songs "Aloha Oe," "Men of Punahou" and "Brahms Symphony Number One, the 125 member Punahou High School Marching Band will be marching down Pennsylvania Avenue in the 2009 Presidential Inauguration Parade - immediately after the Barack Obama swearing-in ceremony. The band will be joined by 17 junior ROTC marching unit and six varsity cheerleaders.

The opportunity is a special one because Mr. Obama graduated from Punahou School in 1979.

"I'm just really thankful that we have the opportunity to represent our school, but more importantly, the state of Hawaii and we're going to do the best that we can with it," Brent Nagamine said. "I think for our students, it's an amazing opportunity for our students to think about what they could become in the future," Darin Au, Punahou Music Department Head, said.

Aloha ~
